Chapter Twenty: A Hairy Situation

Hello, and welcome back to the Hadley Legacy. When we last left off, everyone except Gweny had a birthday, and Katyrzena decided she only wanted to be heiress if she could marry her friend, Santiago.

"What should I do?" she asked him, and he clearly had a plan.
"Talk to your grandmother. Maybe she's not dead set on this maid."

Wendy scowled at her chess pieces. This wasn't what she wanted. She wanted Katyrzena to relinquish heirship because of her lie, not go argue with Gweny. But maybe things could still go her way.

"Grandma, can I talk to you?"
"Not now, dear, I'm getting skinny."
"It's really important. Can we go outside?"

And so Katyrzena proceeded to tell her everything. She told her about wanting to be heiress, and wanting to marry Santiago, and Wendy trying to take heirship away from her, and Roxy threatening her, and everything else.

"I think you picked me because you think I'm a certain kind of girl, and I'm not. I don't want to be chained to some sort of legacy ideal, I'm always going to be me."

"Oh Katty, it's not that at all. I don't want you to have to be someone you're not. It's just that I have to pick an heiress, and there can only be one. We can't keep doing this not choosing thing. If all of you guys move on the house will be full in no time."

"Think about what you want, Katyrzena, and I'll leave it up to you to decide whether you want the title or not."

That morning, on her way to the bathroom, Katyrzena heard voices inside Roxy and Chelle's bedroom. She stopped by the door and listened. It was her aunt, Roxanne, and her uncle, Ian.

"Even if she does give up the title, we have to kill her," Roxy was saying. "We have to make sure there's no way she could ever become heiress. We have to get rid of all of them, except for Gabi. Gabi's our ticket in."

Terrified, Katyrzena ran downstairs to her bedroom, and changed into clothes that didn't belong to her. She shaved her head, then ran out of the house before anyone else even woke up.

She ran away and didn't look back.

Katyrzena went to a lake high up in the mountains, far away from their home. She would live in the mountains, and gather food from around the lake, and never go home again. She was going to hide from the family, let Wendy be the heiress. It was the only way to stay alive.

Unfortunately, because she didn't look back, she didn't see a worried Gabija following her until it was too late.
"Kat? Katyrzena, is that you?"

"What are you doing here?" Gabi asked.
"They're trying to kill me," the heiress said. "Aunt Roxie and everyone. They're going to kill all of us, except you."

"So what, you're just going to run away from your dream and leave everyone else in danger? I won't let you run away!"

"I'm not running away," Katyrzena said, "I'm staying alive. This time, don't follow me."

And Katyrzena ran from the stream, up into the hills to the place she would make her home. And this time she checked if she was being followed, and it appeared that Gabi had left her alone.

Of course, she was wrong. Gabija followed her sister at a distance, until she had her cornered in the middle of stone henge.
"Katyrzena!"

"Gabija! I thought you were them! I told you not to follow me."
"Yeah, well I didn't listen. I'm not going to let you give up your dream just 'cause you're scared. You're going to be the heiress, and that's that."

"Gabi, you don't understand! They'll kill me if they find me."
"Well you can't hide forever. You're coming back with me."

Gabija swayed unsteadily on her feet.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing," she said quickly. "Maybe all this running is getting to me."
"Maybe you should lie down."
"I will, once I've gotten you safely home."

The two talked for hours, up on the mountain. Gabija told her sister about her plan to protect her from Roxy and Ian, and how she was even going to get Wendy on their side.

The two girls shared a hug, and Katyrzena let Gabi keep the water she'd brought for her sister, and they headed back down the hill.

It was dark by the time they got home, and the house was quiet. The girls split up to look for Chelle or Gwen and tell them what had happened.

But before she found anyone, Gabija collapsed, all alone and outside the house.

What happened to Gabi? Will her family find her in time? Find out next, on the Hadley Legacy. Also, maybe we'll move on from this plot and start generation seven.

Chapter Nineteen: Family

Hello, and welcome back to the Hadley Legacy. When we last left off, everyone had their own opinions about who should be heiress. On team Katyrzena we have Gweny, Chelle, Gabija, and Kat herself. On team Wendy we have Ian and Wendy. And on team Gabija is her mother, Roxy. Poor Jayla doesn't get a team.

And it's birthday time in the Hadley house. First Roxy, Jayla, and Wendy...

...and three days later Chelle, Katyrzena, and Gabija.

Roxy didn't change much, just a few lines on her face.

And Chelle looks exactly the same.

This is Jayla, the athlete of the family.

She got a tattoo on her lower back, which we can see here, in a shot from before she cut her hair.

And this is Wendy, who grew into a bit of a perfectionist.

This is Gabija. She looks so charming and sweet, just like a legacy heiress should be? Well she hates children.

But Miss. Katyrzena, whose look is, erm, let's say tough, is family oriented.

"So, since everyone knows, Katyrzena, do you want to be heiress?"
"How did everyone find out?"

"Everyone's been talking about it. So, do you want to be the heiress?"
"Of course! I'd love to carry on our family name. Wouldn't you?"
"Not really. I mean, think about all the successful spares, not getting tied down by having to have babies all the time! And did you hear, Great Uncle Hayden's daughter married Barack Obama!"
"Sounds exciting, Gabi. So you'll be happy if I'm heiress?"
"I will, but I know some people won't."
"Really, who?"

Gabija leaned in to whisper in Katyrzena's ear.
"Wendy wants the title for herself," she said, "I think she'd do anything to get it. You're in danger, Katty. As long as you're heiress you're in danger."

Meanwhile, Wendy was doing some planning of her own.

She crouched behind Katyrzena, tension in her legs, ready to spring, to wrap her arms around her half-sister's throat and eliminate her competition.

"Kat, look out!" Gabija yelled just in time. Katyrzena turned and looked behind herself, to see a nervously grinning Wendy.
"What are you looking at?"
"You," Katyrzena snapped. "You really are trying to kill me!"

Katyrzena ran off to tell their mother, but Wendy followed her.
"What are you going to say to her?" Wendy asked. "Me, try to kill you, you're paranoid!"

"You're noting but a big looooser!"
And Katyrzena knew she was right, that no one would believe her, not now, when she didn't have any proof.

And so life in the Hadley household returned to normal. Gweny's next chess opponent was Ron, so she told him about his daughter being chosen for heiress.

"But Mrs. Hadley, I don't even know Kater- Kather- Katyr- Kat," Ron pointed out. "I didn't even want to be part of this in the first place. It was all Ian's idea. He was all, 'Ron, come on, if we make out with these legacy chicks maybe we'll get some air time, some attention,' and I didn't want to, but he said we both had to in case one of them was a spare or something."

"I don't want to be a legacy husband! I just want my brother to be happy."
"Mr. Thomas, you do realize that Chelle's not going to marry you just because your daughter was chosen."
"She's not? That's a relief, that chick scares me!"

And Katyrzena invites over her best friend in the whole wide world, Santiago. Once he's older, she'd love to date him.
"Oh, but Katty," Wendy said, lying through her teeth, "you know you can't marry him. I heard Grandma say that she wanted the heiress to marry that male maid."
"What?!"

Tune in next time, to find out if Katyrzena really has to marry the maid, or if she can marry Santiago, or if someone else will be the heiress, and who they will marry.
Also, hair!

Chapter Eighteen: I Choose You

Hello, and welcome back to the Hadley Legacy. When we last left off, the four girls became kids and I tried to decide who to make heiress.

Gweny invited over her next ranked chess opponent, and it's Ian!
"So, did you hear, I chose Katyrzena to be heiress. You tell your brother for me, he's officially the father of a legacy heiress."

Meanwhile, Katyrzena's on the phone with her friend Santiago Carver, telling him all about her day.
"So then my grandma pulls me aside and tells me that I'm going to be the heiress, and I get to live in this nice house and everything, but I can't tell my sisters."
"Why not?"
"Something about us killing each other for it?"

"So, Ian, how do you feel about Katyrzena being the new Hadley heiress?"

In the next room...
"What, a new heiress? And it's not my daughter? Something must be done!"

"Ian! Don't you want your daughter to be the one to be chosen?"
"I dunno..."
"Ian, baby, think about it! Use your brain! She'll get to live in this house until she dies, you could marry her mother and move in too, live in the lap of luxury!"
"That does sound pretty good."

"That's the spirit! So we'll work together. If we get Gabija chosen instead, we'll both benefit!"
"It's genius! But how?"
"First we get her on our side, then we take out Katyrzena once and for all!"

"And then, my dearest Iany-poo, all of this will be all MINE! -er, ours."

Upstairs, Chelle slept soundly, unaware that her daughter had been chosen.

"So, who do you guys think will be heiress?"
"Wendy, please, I'm trying to finish my homework."
"It's not my fault you guys are slow."

Gabija sighed. "Wendy, if I tell you, will you be quiet?"
"Sure."
"I heard Grandma talking to Katyrzena. She's picked her to be the heiress."
"What? That's ridiculous! She was supposed to pick me!"

"Gabija?" Roxy called from the next room. "Your father and I need to talk to you for a minute."
"That's my father?"
"Yes."
"I've never seen him around here before."
"Well he's your father, and he loves you very much."

"Now, this is very important, Gabi. Your father and I want you to be the heiress."
"But Kat-"
"Don't you worry about Katyrzena, your father and I will take care of her."

"You mean, like, hurt her?"
"With her out of the way, you're sure to become the heiress!"
"Lady, you are seriously insane if you think I'm going to agree to that."
"What?"
"No way! I don't even want to be heiress!"
And with that, Gabija stormed out, leaving her mother speechless.

While Roxy went off to plan her next move, Wendy approached her father.
"Um, hello. You might not know me, but my name's Wendy, I'm your daughter."

"I know you want one of your kids to become heiress, but there's a way you can do it without working with someone evil like my aunt. If you get me to be the heiress, you can still move in, and marry my Mom."
"You make an excellent point, my dear. I like you!"

And so Ian casually approached Chelle about the subject.
"What are you, nuts? Why would I want that? I don't need to do anything to change my mother's mind, I'm already becoming heiress with Katyrzena! Get out of my face!"

Ian left, sulking, and plotting how he could somehow get one of his daughters chosen as heiress.
Tune in next time, to see if he succeeds!
